Work out what you will carry on your back
Give an item its weight and TrailPack does the arithmetic for you. It multiplies weight per piece by the quantity, adds up everything you are taking, and shows separately how much more the items you are still considering would add. Instead of guessing, you see the number before you pack.
What the gear list gives you
Weight broken down by category
A bar chart splits the total across sleeping, cooking, clothing and the rest, with each share as a percentage. It is usually obvious at a glance which category is weighing you down.
Weight per bag
Set up your own bags — backpack, car, a bag left at the hut — and assign items to them. Each bag gets its own subtotal, so what you carry uphill stays separate from what stays in the car.
A ready-made catalogue to start from
The app ships with 83 common items across ten categories, from a sleeping bag to a headlamp. Take an item over into your own list, adjust its weight and note, and it becomes yours.
Templates for recurring trips
Save a set of gear as a template for a type of trip — a summer trek, a winter tour — and start the next trip from it with one click, including quantities.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my backpack weight?
Enter the weight of each item once, then mark on a trip what you are taking. The app multiplies weight by quantity, adds it up, and shows the total plus subtotals per category and per bag. Items you have not weighed yet are counted separately, so you know how complete the number is.
How much should a backpack weigh?
A common rule of thumb is 20–25 % of your body weight for a multi-day hike, less if you are not used to carrying. Food and water dominate on longer trips — which is exactly why it helps to see the number before you leave rather than feel it on the trail.
Do I have to enter a weight for everything?
No. Weight is optional and the list works without it. The summary only appears once at least one item has a weight, and it tells you how many items are still unweighed, so a partial total never looks like a complete one.
Why do I need to sign in?
Your gear lives in your account, so it follows you between phone and computer and survives clearing the browser. Sign-in is through Google or Apple, so there is no password to invent. The route planner and route explorer work without an account.
Can I print the list?
Yes. Packing mode prints a clean checklist with empty boxes to tick off by hand, including quantities and the trip date.
Is it free?
Yes, the whole app is free and carries no ads.
